Language education in Montessori has evolved in various ways in different regions without much being reported widely. It is mainly practitioners that have built the body of knowledge we now have in this field. Montessori schools in different regions respond to the social and linguistic contexts that surround them to develop their SLA programmes. However, there are trends, differences and commonalities that need to be further explored and research to better understand and expand this area.

Romali Rosales Chavarría is an independent researcher currently working as a Spanish language specialist in Childrens House and a language learning coordinator at the Edinburgh Montessori Arts School, Scotland.
