Montessori Europe Annual Congress

The Montessori Europe Annual Congress 2023, will take place in Gdansk, Poland, from 29 September - 1 October. The theme of the Congress will be: "Promoting Solidarity and Social Justice in Montessori Education". The aim of the Congress is to explore how solidarity and social justice are promoted in Montessori classrooms across the planes of development with a focus on inclusion, identity and children’s rights. Gdansk is rich with history, and the word 'Solidarity,' or Solidarność as it is in Polish, is synonymous with the city. We are most grateful to the Faculty of Science at the University of Gdansk for offering to host us, and very much hope to see you there.

Programme

The final programme for this year’s Annual Congress is now available.

Registration

Registration for Montessori Europe members is now closed.

Our Congress terms and conditions are available here.

School Visits

A well established feature of the Montessori Europe congress, the school visits offer participants the opportunity to observe Montessori practice in the host country. Gdansk offers diverse opportunities and with the kind help of Beata Licznerska, we have secured places in a wide range of provision from forest school to Montessori by the sea and a Christian focused setting. Some schools have several locations and cater for babies and toddlers, 3-6 years olds and also primary age children. School visit places will be allocated on a first come first serve basis, with priority given to ME members. Make sure you indicate your preference when registering.

Research Day

Montessori Europe considers as one of the important elements of its mission the promotion of research and connecting of different educational communities, especially within the approach pioneered by Maria Montessori in the early 20th century. This year, the Board of Montessori Europe, in order to meet the expectations of members of the Montessori community, will dedicate the whole first day of the congress (Friday 29 September 2023) to the presentation and promotion of the achievements of scholars.

Open Spaces

Our working groups invite participants to join them on Friday afternoon, offering a deep-dive into particular areas of interest. Further details will be shared in the preliminary programme.

Adolescents Forum, Sunday 1 October

Adolescents are growing up in a changing and complex world. Our role is to ensure they develop the skills to become lifelong learners making informed decisions and able to positively engage with their communities. In this effort, we continue, at our Congress in Gdansk, to offer a programme for adolescents, providing a platform to amplify their voice.

The Adolescent Forum is designed to empower European students to take action on sustainability in their communities and work together with peers. It is based on a similar event held at the 2022 Montessori Europe Congress in Amsterdam. Judith Cunningham, Montessori Europe Board Member and Riemer Brandsma, Student Advisor to Montessori Europe, are, on behalf of Montessori Europe, organising the ME Adolescent Forum for you and your students.
