What does it mean to say that the Montessori guide is a researcher?
In this webinar, Dr Jarosław Jendza explores Maria Montessori’s vision of the teacher as a “scientist of human development”, as articulated in The Discovery of the Child. Rather than presenting research as a technical skill set, this session will examine the deeper dispositions Montessori believed were essential to the guide’s work — including careful observation, ethical responsibility, scientific curiosity, and reflective self-development.
Drawing on a qualitative thematic analysis of Montessori’s writings, the webinar will introduce five key research competencies and reflect on how these can inform Montessori practice today. Participants will be invited to consider how classrooms can become living laboratories of observation, inquiry, and growth, and how guides can continue Montessori’s research tradition through daily work with children.
Ideal for Montessori guides, teacher trainers, school leaders, and researchers interested in reflective practice and Montessori philosophy.
